Let's Work Together

Board Advisor Services

I offer board advisory services where I share my cumulative go-to-market knowledge leading marketing for the three of the fastest growing SaaS companies in history: Slack (CRO/CMO), Zendesk (CMO) and Salesforce (SVP Marketing).  I have achieved 5 exits over my career.

I absolutely _love_ helping companies out and this is a personal passion for me.  I’ve always been fascinated with different GTM and marketing strategies and their impact on growth and capital efficiency.  Why do some startups with a great product but terrible GTM die?  Why do some companies achieve a certain growth rate but at a terrible cost efficiency?  How can marketing help companies

In addition, I really enjoy building partnerships with CEO’s, founders and their marketing teams.  It gives me a chance to create new relationships, provide guidance and help mentor marketing and GTM leaders.

What is a
Board Advisor?

Think of a board advisor as someone who can complement your existing board members and executive team.

A Board Advisor is usually a seasoned and successful operator who helps and supports companies in a variety of areas. They focus 100% on business initiatives, as opposed to formal board members who need to spend time on funding, governance, and procedure.

Some companies will bring on individual board advisors to help with a particular area of the business (marketing or growth, for example). Others will create an advisory board panel filled with multiple operators with different domain expertise. Note that a board advisor is not a formal board member and does not partake in the governance portion.

Think of a board advisor as someone who can complement your existing board members and executive team. A strong board advisor has been through multiple successful exits and can give you the operator’s viewpoint of that journey.

My primary area of focus is to provide guidance on modern marketing and growth strategies for AI and SaaS companies. I love infusing B2C growth and brand strategies into B2B companies. I’m a huge fan of PLG and capital-efficient growth.

I try not to use a standard playbook, as I think each company and their space is different. But if you talk to me long enough, you will generally hear me advocate for PLG, freemium models, high velocity, content marketing, SEO, brand building, virality loops, ABM, and many other strategies. I like to show you what has worked to power some of the fastest-growing B2B SaaS companies. I’ll also help mentor your existing marketing leaders and assist in finding a CMO or VP if needed.

Ideal Founders & CEO’s

If you want a boring, dusty, 30-year-old playbook, then you should walk away now.

It’s rewarding for me to work with great founders who are mission-driven, customer-centric, and open-minded to adopting more cutting-edge GTM strategies. I usually advocate for modern, customer-centric growth strategies. I also love helping companies build iconic brands with unique visual identities and tones of voice (yes, even for your B2B enterprise business). If you want a boring, dusty, 30-year-old playbook, then you should definitely walk away now.

Types of companies I work with

I really enjoy partnering with AI and SaaS companies, as I have a lot of experience working for and advising both. I’m incredibly passionate about helping these companies build modern GTM motions that allow them to dominate categories. As far as B2B segments, I work with companies targeting enterprises, SMBs, and everything in between.

As far as stage, it is Series A startups all the way up to public companies. In general, I don’t tend to work with seed companies because I feel they are a little too early from a product-market fit standpoint.

Term & Compensation

I work with a small, select group of companies and engage for two years at a time so I can really get to know the team and advocate for long-term, customer-centric, capital-efficient growth strategies. Please note, I don’t do short-term engagements. I’ve tried these in the past, but I find I don’t really get to know the team, and it isn’t as rewarding for me. Compensation is a mixture of cash and equity. Reach out for my current rates.

I don’t always have an open advisory slot, but reach out using the form below if you are interested. I’m happy to have a conversation to see if I can help out or point you in the right direction.
